One of the oldest plants in cultivation, Japanese Persimmon has been grown for its fruit for over two thousand years in Asia. Persimmons can be bitter if not allowed to fully ripen. The best indicator that fruits are ripe is when the leaves start to drop in autumn and the fruits are quite soft. Best in high organic, nutrient-rich soil. Trees have a long tap root, so plant should not be moved once established. Prune to maintain desired shape. Watering 2 – 3 times per week until established. Apply a complete fertilizer formulated for fruit bearing varieties.
